 An on-line directory that provides information on community, health and social services.


2. Service Alberta: 310-0000. 

Provides a province-wide phone directory and assistance.


3. Service Canada: 1-800-622-6232

Provides Federal Government information.


4. Legal Aid: 780-227-7575 Offers legal advice to people with low income. 


5. Ombudsman: 780-427-2756 

The provincial Ombudsman has the authority to investigate complaints against provincial agencies, departments, boards and commissions.


6. Protection for Persons in Care: 1-888-357-9339

To report abuse in a care facility. They investigate complaints of abuse involving adults receiving services from government funded agencies.


7. Seniors Abuse Help line: 780-454-8888 


8. Canadian National Institute for the blind: 780-488-4871

Provides services for persons who have vision loss or are completely blind.


9. Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services: 780-428-6610 or TTY

Provides information and services for the deaf or hard of hearing.


10. Alberta Health Services (AHS) - Community Care Services: 780-496-1300

General inquiries on all programs within Community Care Services including 

Home care, Continuing Care, Supportive Living, Palliative Care, CHOICE program, and Adult Day Programs. It is staffed 24 hrs per day.


11.  Key Rights for Seniors in Care

  • Dignity and Respect: Seniors should be treated with respect, and their culture, identity, and diversity must be valued and supported. 
  • Quality Care: Facilities must provide quality healthcare and meet safety standards, including hygiene, fire safety, and accessibility measures. 
  • Safety: Residents have the right to live without abuse and neglect and to a safe, clean, and suitable environment that meets their physical and cognitive needs. 
  • Privacy: Seniors have the right to privacy in all aspects of their lives, including their personal health information. 
  • Autonomy and Choice: They have the right to make their own care and personal choices, including accepting or refusing care that does not negatively impact others. 
  • Information: Residents should be informed about their care and services in a way they can understand. 
  • Medical Decision-Making: For seniors with dementia, there should be legally recognized decision-makers to ensure their rights are protected. 
  • Housing and Support Services: Residents have a right to access appropriate long-term care, support programs, and services like personal care.
